Edward III “Kingless” Gold Nobles—a rare variant of the 4th coinage (Pre-Treaty Series G, c. 1356–61) characterised by the omission of “REX” (King) in the legend—have recently been sold or listed by specialist dealers at prices around
£20,000 to £27,500.
- “Kingless” Noble (MS63): A very rare example was listed/sold at Sovereign Rarities for £27,500.
- “Kingless” Noble (MS62): Listed for £20,000.
- Description: The coin features Edward III in a ship, but the Latin legend omits the title REX (King), reading instead “Edward DEI GRA AIIGLo Zo FRAIICo Do hYoBo E” (Edward by the Grace of God, Lord of Ireland, etc.).
- Significance: These are considered highly desirable among collectors for their rarity, particularly in Mint State (MS) condition
