Edward the Confessor Penny Coin

Edward the Confessor Penny Coin
Fine: £1,500
Very Fine: Up to: £14,000

A rare Edward the Confessor “mule” silver penny (Helmet/Eagles reverse) minted in Shaftesbury by Wulfric was recently on the market for

£14,500.
This particular coin is highly valued because it is a “mule,” meaning it was struck using mismatched dies from two different types—the pointed helmet type obverse (1053–56) and the eagles reverse (1056–59). It is considered to be of the highest rarity, with only one other example known in the British Museum Collection.
