A rare Richard III gold Half Angel coin, discovered by a detectorist near Bosworth Field, sold for £40,800 (including buyer’s premium) in December 2017, exceeding its £15,000 estimate. Only a few of these rare 15th-century coins exist, making them highly prized by collectors.

Discovery: Found in 2017 by Michelle Vall, a metal detectorist at a charity rally in Monks Kirby, Warwickshire.
Auction Results: Sold at Dix Noonan Webb (now Noonans) for a hammer price of £34,000, totaling £40,800 with fees, to a U.S. collector.
Significance: Richard III ruled for only 26 months, making his coinage extremely scarce. This coin is type S-2153, described as a very fine (VF) example.
Value: Initially expected to fetch up to £15,000, the intense interest led to a much higher final sale price.
